Root Canal Treatments In Woodland Hills From Around The Corner Dental Health Spa
Around The Corner Dental Health Spa specializes in various dental procedures, including root-canal-dentistry.  A root canal may be required for various reasons.  Deep cavities that have moved down to the pulp of the tooth are usually the main need for a root canal, as well as nerve damage caused by restorative procedures or accidents. When the nerve becomes infected, it needs to be removed in order to prevent further damage.  Dr. Kanani suggests regular cleanings and dental checkups for his patients, as this can help prevent the need for root-canal-dentistry.

How Will I Know If I Need A Root Canal?
You may have a friend or family member that has said the common phrase, "If you need a root canal, you'll know!"  This may be true, but not always. In some cases if the nerve has died, you would not have any pain at all. So don't wait for the pain to come! There usually are some symptoms. The symptoms may be sensitivity to hot and cold, a foul taste in the mouth, or a general feeling of pain in the mouth. Pain generally occurs when the decay is deep and has traveled close to the nerve and has caused some damage to the nerve. In this situation a root canal is required due to damaged nerves.  It is important to note that teeth sensitivity and other dental pain can also be caused by issues that do not require a root canal. Teeth can be sensitive due to sinus pressure, recent fillings, or teeth whitening procedures, and dental pain can be caused by cavities, infections, cracked tooth and a variety of other issues.
Abscessed teeth are usually what people are talking about when they say you will know if you need a root canal.  An abscessed tooth causes severe pain, and other symptoms include swollen glands, red and painful gums, and a bump on the outside of the gums that may or may not be draining.  It is important to have your dentist determine the cause of the pain or sensitivity before you start to worry that you may need a root canal.  If a root canal is required, in today's dental world there are many new techniques and anesthetics available, so the patient is completely comfortable during the procedure. The dentist will give you a full mouth exam and will take X rays to determine your condition. If a root canal is required, Around The Corner Dental Health Spa will schedule an appointment for treatment. If your tooth is abscessed or there is an infection present, Dr. Kanani will also send you home with a prescription for antibiotics.

Root Canal Procedure
The root canal dentistry procedure is a fairly simple process.  You will first be given a topical anesthetic to numb the area where the dentist will be performing the procedure. A rubber dam will be placed in the mouth to keep the tooth area protected from saliva during the procedure.  The dentist will then place what are called root canal files into an access that is drilled into the tooth. The access files allow the dentist to thoroughly clean the area. The dental assistant will continuously flush the mouth out with water during the procedure to remove the bacteria as the dentist works.  The dentist will then check the tooth to ensure that it is free of all debris.  Once the infected pulp and nerves are properly removed, the dentist will seal the tooth. If infection is present, Dr. Kanani may inject medicine into the tooth and place a temporary filling until the infection has cleared.  Once the infection has cleared up, you will come back for a final appointment where the tooth will be properly sealed.  Dr. Kanani may also advise on any restorative work that may be needed if your tooth is severely damaged or discolored due to the damaged  nerves. The tooth does not need the nerve in order to function properly, and it is very important to have a root canal procedure performed even if the pain has ceased.  If the pain has stopped, you may still have bacteria present in the tooth that can spread and cause infection, and a root canal procedure will prevent any further infection from spreading.
